In 1837, John Wesley Fallas (called Wesley)
came with his brother Silas to West Michigan
from Tompkins County, New York.  John built a
Sawmill and eventually a Grist mill, and early on
began the manufacture of lumber and flour. In
1841 John went back to NY to marry his bride,
Phoebe Brown.
After the couple returned to Fallasburg, they
had two sons, Henry B. and Charles Wesley
Fallas. In his mill he established a chair factory;
he operated these mills until 1875. In that year
he disposed of his mills to his sons and
focused his efforts on his farm which he
cultivated until his death on November 5th
1896.
He was preceded in death by his wife Phoebe
in 1890.
