2011 has finally come to a close. It began with Michigan Paranormal Alliance assisting Mrs. Brenda Dyer and Cityscape Adventures bringing to West Michigan, “Grand Rapids Most Haunted”. Through it’s Full moon tours and Lock-in events, Mrs. Dyer does an excellent job of bringing the darker side of the city’s history to life. While offering a peek into some of the locations deemed most haunted, participants have to chance to use real equipment to do some paranormal investigating of their own. An experience not soon to be forgotten.

M.P.A. had been assisting Mrs. Dyer in this endeavor since October of 2010. and sadly had to part ways so that M.P.A. could continue our work, which is assisting our clients in the community and in other parts of the state. We thank Brenda Dyer and Cityscape Adventures for everything and feel very confident that the new F.I.U. (Field Investigations Unit) team will continue bringing new “Adventures” to Grand Rapids, and we wish them much success.

Michigan Paranormal Alliance had a chance to do some traveling this past year. In January we found ourselves traveling to the “Tip of the Thumb” area for an investigation of a very old building which was reportedly haunted. With no heat or electricity, it was definitely one of our more interesting investigations.. NOT. While there was no evidence or activity noted. It was a fun little road trip for the group.

In June we planned a trip out east. Our first stop was Moundsville, West Virginia and a visit to Moundsville Penitentiary or
The West Virginia State Penitentiary, it is a retired, Gothic style prison. It operated from 1876 to 1995.

From there, we traveled to Weston, West Virginia to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum for an overnight “Ghost Hunt”. Formerly known as the Weston State Hospital, this West Virginia facility served as a sanctuary for the mentally ill in the mid-1800’s. The history of the building holds fascinating stories of Civil War raids, a gold robbery, the “curative” effects of architecture, and the efforts of determined individuals to help better the lives of the mentally ill.

We spent several days and nights in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Touring battlefields, historic buildings and cemeteries. We visited Washington DC and Arlington National Cemetery. And then moved on to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to visit the very famous Eastern State Penitentiary. Eastern State Penitentiary opened its doors on October 23, 1829, Built at a cost of $780,000, it was one of the most expensive American buildings of the day, and took 14 years to construct. Home to some of America’s most notorious criminals, including Al Capone, Willie Sutton, and Leo Callahan, Eastern State Penitentiary operated for 142 consecutive years before closing its doors in 1971.

It was truly an awesome adventure for us. Visit our Investigations pages on these locations.

We’ve since then been focusing our time on our clients and their needs. Conducting investigations, home cleansings and blessings as well as counseling. We look forward to 2012 and what she has in store for us. Where will she take us? Stay tuned.

Follow us on Facebook as well.

This is the blog of the Michigan Paranormal Alliance (M.P.A. for short); M.P.A. began as Grand Rapids Area Paranormal Enthusiasts in October of 2000. We are a group of like-minded individuals that share an extreme interest in researching and investigating the paranormal. Primarily we conduct research and investigations of private homes or places of business. Our main focus is our clients. We strive to bring comfort, safety and confidentiality to those who call upon us.

It’s not an easy thing to do to call on the services of paranormal investigators when you suspect there may be paranormal activity occurring in your home. We want you to know that we are here for you and do not think you are crazy. Sometimes what can seem like paranormal activity to you may be something as simple as faulty wiring, drafts, etc. And all it takes is someone to look at from a different view point, and other times things just can not be easily explained away and can be considered paranormal in nature. That’s where we come in. We can assist in ruling out the “normal” by means of scientific equipment. With said equipment and the abilities of our psychic-medium, we can then attempt to communicate with whatever may be there and find out what exactly is going on. Is there a ghost or spirit present…? What do they want? Why they are there? And do they need help?

In addition to Research and Investigation, we also offer home cleansings and blessings, counseling, and after care.
